01
Start with thermostat identity
Save the brand, model, serial number if available, installation date, room location, app account owner, and a clear photo of the thermostat face or backplate label. A smart thermostat is easier to support when the device identity is connected to the HVAC system it controls.
02
Keep safe wiring photos as records
If you already have safe, provider-requested wiring photos from installation or service, keep them with the thermostat record. Do not open panels, remove wiring, or handle electrical components just to create a record. RepairFolio should help organize existing information, not guide electrical work.
03
Connect the thermostat to HVAC context
Record the furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, boiler, humidifier, or zone system connected to the thermostat. Add equipment label photos, filter notes, prior HVAC invoices, and any provider notes about compatibility or setup changes.
04
Prepare account and handoff notes
Smart thermostat support can involve app access, household ownership, Wi-Fi changes, or a home sale handoff. Keep non-sensitive account notes, household owner context, installer records, and reset or transfer instructions from the manufacturer or provider where household members can find them.
05
Add warranty and service history
Save proof of purchase, warranty terms, registration confirmation, installation invoice, support case numbers, and service notes. These records do not guarantee warranty coverage, but they make thermostat and HVAC conversations easier to explain.
06
Build a support-ready summary
Before contacting HVAC service or thermostat support, prepare a concise summary with device identity, HVAC equipment link, issue notes, safe photos, setup changes, warranty context, and prior service history. Keep the note factual and leave diagnosis to qualified providers.
